Sigil beta program
Beta Agreement
Effective 11 July 2026 · applies to all pre-release builds
Sigil is in beta. Participating means running pre-release software under the terms below. They're short and we've kept them in plain language — if anything is unclear, ask us at [email protected] before installing.
1. What the beta is
Beta builds are pre-release versions of Sigil provided for evaluation and feedback. They may contain defects, may change or remove features without notice, and may behave differently from any final release. Don't rely on a beta build for work you can't afford to lose or redo.
2. Your license
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Sigil beta builds during the beta period, for evaluation and feedback. Sigil is licensed, not sold; we keep all rights not expressly granted here. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the software except where law expressly permits it despite this limitation.
3. Beta keys
- Beta license keys are issued to you by name and email, and the licensed name is shown in the app.
- Keys are personal — don't share, publish, or transfer them. A shared or leaked key may be revoked.
- Beta keys expire. When yours expires or the beta ends, the licensed features lock again; the app tells you before that happens, and live SDR features keep working.
4. Updates
Beta builds update themselves through the app's built-in update mechanism (Sparkle), fetching signed updates from sigil.radio. Beta updates can be frequent. You can check for updates manually or turn automatic checking off in Preferences, but staying current is the point of the program — old beta builds may stop being supported at any time.
5. Feedback
Feedback is why the beta exists, and we want to be able to act on it freely: you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use, modify, and incorporate anything you send us about Sigil — bug reports, suggestions, captures you choose to share — without restriction or compensation. Never send a capture or log you aren't comfortable sharing; session logs attached to reports are yours to review before sending.
6. Your data
What we store about beta testers (your name and email, and license activation records) and what the app does and doesn't send is covered by the privacy policy.
7. Using radios lawfully
Sigil is receive-only analysis software, but what you may lawfully receive, record, or disclose varies by country. You are responsible for operating your radio hardware and using your captures in compliance with the laws of your jurisdiction.
8. Export compliance
The software is subject to U.S. export control and sanctions laws. By participating you confirm that you are not located in an embargoed country and are not on any U.S. government denied-party list, and that you won't re-export or provide the software contrary to those laws.
9. No warranty
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. YOU USE PRE-RELEASE SOFTWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
10. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF DATA, ARISING FROM THE BETA PROGRAM OR THE SOFTWARE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY UNDER THIS AGREEMENT IS LIMITED TO US $50. THE BETA IS FREE OF CHARGE.
11. Term
This agreement applies while you use any beta build. We may end the beta program, or revoke individual keys for breach of these terms, at any time. Sections 5, 9, and 10 survive termination.
12. Changes
We may update these terms between beta builds; the current version always lives at this address with its effective date above. Continuing to use beta builds after a change means you accept it.
